God's Compassion in Motherhood

I am a theologian and I am a mother. I spent countless hours nursing my babies day and night, sustaining them with my own life, cradling them in my arms, lifting them to my cheeks. I didn’t know this at that time, but God is reflected in the sacred acts of growing, birthing, and feeding babies. Mothering is a reflection of the image of God, Divine functions experienced by God and bestowed upon humans.

God's Compassion in a Complex World

All eyes are on the Middle East, and everyone has an opinion on what’s happening there. Because it’s an extremely complex situation, many Christians are looking for reasons or rationale to support one side over the other. The truth is that the heart of God is compassion for everyone, rooted in the heart of a Mother. This truth has implications to radically alter our theology and how we show up in the world, if we let it.
