I have always loved singing in church, yet there are so many songs that I used to sing in church that I cannot sing anymore. Even when I attended a more traditional church setting, I had a hard time with the lyrics of so many songs because either I didn’t personally believe the words or I didn’t even know what we were trying to say with the words we were singing. I would stay quiet during those parts of the song, getting stuck in a little mental spiral until the song ended.

After no longer identifying as an evangelical Christian, there were a lot of years where I couldn’t walk into a church setting without crying.
